It's been some time since I last updated you on the activities we've been enjoying, so let's dive right in!
The Splash Pad
We're fortunate to live close to one of the many splash pads in Peterborough. In the evenings, we often head over there for a 10-minute cool-down. It's a great way to beat the heat and also meet new people. Recently, my son made friends with another child who
was playing with chalk. They had fun experimenting with mixing chalk and water together. It was delightful to see them explore and become friends.
The Mall
We still make regular trips to the mall, usually every 1-2 weeks. Recently, my son saw my husband and me going on a date, and he felt a bit sad that he couldn't join us. So, the following weekend, we decided to take both him and his sister on a special outing. We headed to the mall to ride the fuzz-e-riders and treat ourselves to delicious donuts. It
was particularly exciting because it was my husband's first time trying out the fuzz-e-riders, and we had a blast watching him enjoy the experience! Since my daughter has started walking, we brought along her walker so she could practice in the long, straight hallways.
Free Activities
We recently explored some fantastic free events happening in Peterborough. I keep up with various Peterborough accounts on Instagram, check out Facebook events, and read the flyers around town to stay informed. One event we attended was the open house at the police station, and it was a blast! We had the opportunity to witness captivating demonstrations by police dogs and even got to meet a few of them. Watching officers rappel down the side of the building was especially thrilling. My son had a blast trying out different vehicles like the SWAT-like vehicle and a motorcycle. We also had a tour of the police station, including a visit to the jail cells.
Whenever we venture around East City, we bring along our wagon for easy travel. We joined in on the free community BBQ organized by Burnham Pharmacy in East City. Despite the large turnout, the pharmacy had plenty of delicious food and drinks available. It was a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a tasty lunch while mingling with other members of our community.
The Peterborough Zoo
Last week, we had a short visit to the Peterborough Zoo, where my daughter had her first-ever train ride! This free zoo provides a multitude of enjoyable activities, including a splash pad, a spacious playground divided into different age sections, an exciting super slide, the train, and of course, a wide variety of animals. Additionally, they offer the option to enroll in the Zoo Crew class, which my son took part in last year. During the summer, you can also attend free programs at the gazebo.
Peterborough Child and Family Centre Adventure
We recently visited the Peterborough Child and Family Centre on Antrim street and had a fantastic time exploring both the indoor and outdoor spaces. It was our first time experiencing the outdoor area, which offers an array of activities for kids, including a large sandbox filled with toys and shovels. There are different slides, a grassy area, big chalkboards to draw on, a track with various vehicles, a mud kitchen with a manual water pump, and so much more. We went with a friend and her daughter, and all three kids (ranging from
1 to 4 years old) had an absolute blast. We decided to return the next day to enjoy the indoor space. This time, we brought along the two one-year-olds. The inside area is divided into two sections: a larger room with bigger toys and a smaller room with smaller parts. My daughter's favorite toys are baby dolls, and she immediately found them in both rooms, spending a while at the baby washing station. In the next few weeks, I plan to bring my son back so he can explore the indoor space as well.
To Sum it Up!
In summary, our recent adventures in Peterborough have been filled with joy, exploration, and wonderful experiences for the whole family.
